Home Additions

When a home no longer provides the space or layout a household needs, a thoughtfully planned addition can create more room without requiring a move. Additions may expand a kitchen, create new bedrooms or bathrooms, provide space for extended family, or add an entirely new level to the home.
Star Remodeling plans and builds additions that respond to the homeowner’s goals while fitting appropriately within the structure, scale, and architectural character of the existing property.
Building an addition requires careful coordination of design, structural requirements, zoning, permitting, utilities, materials, and connections to the existing home. Building on a remodeling legacy that began in 1958, our team helps guide homeowners through the planning and construction decisions involved in creating new living space.
A Family-Living Addition in West Newbury
The addition shown above was designed to give a West Newbury family more room for extended and multi-generational living. The broader project included new living space along with kitchen, bathroom, bedroom, and other interior remodeling.
The project demonstrates how an addition can do more than increase square footage. With thoughtful planning, new space can improve privacy, circulation, storage, and the way multiple generations use the home.

A Kitchen Addition in Groveland

This Groveland project involved adding space to the kitchen of a Cape Cod-style home. Because the work required structural planning, permits, and code compliance, the homeowner brought in an experienced remodeling team to complete the addition.
Our scope included coordinating the required permits, constructing the exterior shell, and grading the surrounding yard. The homeowner, an experienced woodworker, planned to complete portions of the interior work.
The materials and proportions of the addition were selected to complement the home’s existing exterior. The completed structure created additional kitchen space while maintaining a consistent relationship with the original house.
Addition Design and Planning
Home additions often involve more than simply constructing another room. Zoning restrictions, setbacks, structural connections, foundation requirements, rooflines, drainage, heating and cooling, plumbing, electrical service, and access between old and new spaces may all affect the project.
Star Remodeling coordinates with architects, designers, engineers, subcontractors, vendors, and municipal officials as required. We emphasize careful planning, clear communication, and attention to the details that affect both the new space and the existing home.
Because additions require substantial design development, scope definition, material selections, and permitting, a Design & Planning Agreement may be required before reliable fixed pricing can be prepared.
