Basement Remodeling
An unfinished or underused basement can provide valuable space for a home office, recreation room, gym, guest area, laundry room, storage, or other household needs. Because basement conditions differ from the rest of the home, converting the space requires careful attention to moisture, ventilation, insulation, lighting, utilities, and code requirements.
Star Remodeling helps homeowners plan and complete basement conversions that improve the function and comfort of the home while addressing the practical challenges of below-grade construction.
Building on a remodeling legacy that began in 1958, our team coordinates the design, planning, and construction details involved in turning unfinished or outdated basements into usable living space.
A Complex Basement Remodel in Swampscott
This featured Swampscott basement remodeling project involved substantial demolition, planning, and reconstruction.
The project page includes a video of the completed space with the homeowners, along with images showing the basement after demolition and during several stages of construction.
A Finished Basement in Weston
For this Weston basement, we used the Wahoo Walls panelized finishing system. The system combines rigid foam insulation with magnesium oxide panels and includes channels that accommodate electrical wiring.
The panelized system helped us create the desired layout while using materials selected for below-grade conditions. PVC trim and moisture-resistant flooring were also incorporated into the project.
The completed basement provided the homeowners with a more finished, comfortable, and usable extension of the home.
Basement Design and Planning
Basement remodeling may involve foundation and moisture conditions, ceiling height, emergency egress, insulation, ventilation, heating and cooling, plumbing, electrical service, structural supports, and access to mechanical equipment.
Before finishes are selected, the existing basement should be evaluated to determine whether water intrusion, humidity, drainage, mold, or structural concerns need to be addressed.
Star Remodeling coordinates with designers, engineers, subcontractors, vendors, and municipal officials as required by the project. We emphasize careful planning, clear communication, and attention to the construction details that affect the long-term performance of the space.
Projects requiring detailed design development, material selections, permitting, structural changes, or substantial scope definition may require a Design & Planning Agreement before reliable fixed pricing can be prepared.
